REINCARNATED SINCE 1811 or history on repeat review by Olivia Larraquel. ABE

The short film is all about going back to the past. It is a story about a young boy living in the 21st century where he experienced and saw with his own eyes the life of the Filipino people during the past era. It was the year 1811, 1890, 1912 and 1941. Rynel, the one who traveled through time in his dreams, he thought that it looks really real and have a different feeling when he woke up.

Rynel decided to post about his dreams and read all the comments, some of his friends didn’t believe him and they think that he is lying and maybe think that he is just fooling around. After I’ve watched the short film, I have this question on my mind that, what if it really happened to us—not the part where the Japanese era exist but the part where you travel through time in just dreaming. Some people say many of us sees a lot of people in our dreams, even if we didn’t know that person and have this weird or deja vu dreams.

For some of us we are scared to witness that kind of dreams that Rynel experienced, but we have a different reasons, in my opinion I would be so curious what does it feel to have a dream like that. To have that kind of dream was actually a open eyed for me—I think, because we, students had heard it a million times to our teachers even now but it was a great feeling to witness it in your own eyes. On how does the life of Filipinos before? How did they cope with everyday life to think that they will be in danger any minute of their lives? How did they survive? On how to be strong and calm when war is coming? We have a lot of questions in our mind, we are so curious about that said years.

Even if we are living a modern world, where everything is about technologies. We can’t help but think that what would happen if there’s no Filipinos who are brave enough to stand for our country? What would happen if there’s no so-called hero where they stand for us and gave their lives for us? Are you thankful that our ancestors are alive because we are not gonna be here if they didn’t survive and make our parents safe? And there’s a lot of it, it was like never ending questions.

Watching Reincarnated Since 1811 is like going back to the past life of Filipino people. When you can witness how the Japanese are so brutal and mercyless when killing people. Philippines have a lot of history, a lot of problems, a lot of struggles that we can’t cope with. And we still experiencing and witnissing how those people died or getting killed without justice, it was exactly the same thing before. We should protect ourselves and people around us because we don’t want them to experience that kind of pain. We should learn from the tragedy which happened before, that we need to be strong and keep from repeating the same mistakes.
