4th MSC Film Festival features Young and Upcoming Filmmakers in Sine Gunita

Boac, Marinduque – After a decade long hiatus, MSC Communication Society mounts a powerful return with SINE GUNITA: 4th MSC Film Festival with the theme, “Pagkilala at Pagkakaisa sa Masisining na Paggunita ng Lente at Kamera sa Isla”

There are at least 10 short-films produced, directed, and casted by the BA Communication students which were screened in a 3-day film-festival event last December 5 until December 7, 2022. In addition, the well-anticipated Awards Night was held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the MSC Gymnasium.

The following films are the official entries for the 4th MSC Film Festival: Takipsilim; Hunyango; Liwayway; Limang Taong walang Tulog; Hawla; Walong Galamay, Walang Puso; Eva; Midnight Rainbow; 155 days After Ysa; and Sabel. The said films were screened on December 5 to 7 at the MSC audio-visual room and MSC Library Learning Resource Center. In addition, a film critiquing was also conducting last December 7 with Sir Damian Velasquez III from National University, Sir Kelvin Kerbi Villamor of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) National Committee on Dramatic Arts, Syd March Miraflor of ABS CBN and BA Comm alumni, Aizel Lacdao of Union Locale and BA Comm alumna as well and James Harvey Estrada of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Department of Broadcasting, College of Communication.

The BA Communication Department, with its subject instructor, Sir Carl Lagar, and program head, Sir Jerome Lingon, consider this event not only as a requirement for the subject course, “Introduction to Film”, but also as an opportunity to awaken and promote the creativity and artistic production of films among MSCians and Marinduqueños. After a successful run, each participating teams expressed their utmost gratitude to the people who made this event possible.

“Natapos na nga ang ginawang film showing ng mga magaaral ng Batsilyer ng Sining sa Komunikasyon. Ginanap ang film showing ng tatlong araw, magmula December 5 hanggang December 7. Ginawa ang film showing dahil sa muling pagbubukas ng mga lente at camera sa isla, kasabay ng muling pagbabalik at pagkabuhay ng alab sa paggawa ng mg pelikula. Marami ang sumubaybay at sumuporta sa inihandog na maikling pelikula ng mga magaaral ng Komunikasyon nang buksan ito sa publiko,” the BA Communication teaser read.

Aizel Lacdao and Paul Mansia graced the occasion along with the Vice President for Academics Dr. Victoriano Regio in lieu of MSC President Dr. Diosdado Zulueta. Dr. Joy Montejo, the dean of the MSC College of Education, Arts and Social Sciences and Dr. Ernesto Largado, the CEASS associate dean of the Institute of Arts and Social Sciences also imparted their respective well wishes and gesture of support as well as communication faculty and other BA Comm students. The first ever MSC Film Festival was held in 2011 under the auspices of the then School of Arts and Sciences AB Communication Arts program. Incidentally, MSC is celebrating its platinum anniversary year with the foundation of Marinduque School of Arts and Trades in June 21, 1952 and the Quadricentennial Year of the Marinduque capital, reestablishment of Boac from December 8, 1622.
